Well, I've been trying to keep my standards up by reading lots of magazines (Time, Newsweek, the Economist) in my spare time. My elder sister is a GP tutor at a local JC, and she brings home such magazines on a regular basis.

I also try to write entries in my blog as fluently as I can. Razz

You know how there'll always be questions on environment, poverty etc, that require lots of reading of notes? I'd just pick the 'odd' questions that are impossible to study for e.g. Why is color important?

When I started Club 30, it was partly because I found the bad English in the other forums an utter eyesore! Laughing I hoped that Club 30 would be a place where we'd all try to write well and exchange ideas.

And then, I succumbed to Singlish because it was too rampant to stamp it out altogether. Razz Besides, it kinda fosters camaraderie amongst us.

However, I'm all for us putting in an effort once more to write well. Since a few of us are already complaining of our declining standards in the language, why not consider this forum as a channel to improve upon our linguistic skills? Wink

I used to read tons of gossip mags and women's mags but these days, I'm so aghast with my declining standard in English that I've been making myself read Time, Focus (BBC's Science Mag), New Scientist, and other more 'serious' publications, in order to jolt my mind back to work again! Laughing

Soon, I shall have to enroll in Nursing School for my Post-Grad Dip and etc so I'm trying to gently wake my brain up! Hey, buddy, time to get going soon! Razz
